Sweet, strong, and oh-so sexy, this drink is a potent combo that seems like it shouldn’t work together but, oh boy, it really, really does. It’s my ode to a character on "The Mindy Project," Danny Castellano (cue those sexy red reading glasses). Honestly, this recipe is really an homage to the deeply talented and wildly underrated actor Chris Messina (who inhabits Danny with charm and has already had a thoughtful and significant career as an indie film actor). For a Cassavetes and Pacino fan like me who loves great writing and great acting, it was golden casting that gives the show both its heart and its depth.
5 ounces Scotch
1½ ounces amaretto
2 king ice cubes (see Kitchen Tip)
4 fresh cherries, for garnish
- Pour the Scotch and amaretto into a shaker with the crushed ice and stir (or shake) well until thoroughly blended and chilled. Place 1 king-sized ice cube into each of 2 glasses.
- Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into the prepared glasses, garnish with the cherries, and serve immediately.
- If you don’t have an oversized square (king cube) ice tray, use 2 regular ice cubes per serving.
