Sweet Tea and Southern Comfort

Comfortable, sweet, and hot, this flavored tea will warm you from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.

1 lemon, washed

5 cups water

1 large cinnamon stick

1 teaspoon loose-leaf black tea, Earl Grey or English Breakfast preferred

3 tablespoons cane syrup

3 ounces Southern Comfort or any whiskey

  1. Peel the lemon with a small paring knife. Place the pieces on a work surface with the white pith facing up. With the knife, cut, scrape or shave off all of the white pith and discard it, reserving the smooth rind. Juice the lemon into a small container.
  2. Place the lemon rind in a nonreactive saucepan. Add the water, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, cover, and bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to a simmer, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add the cane syrup, Southern Comfort, and tea and stir well. Cover and steep for 3 minutes. Strain well and serve immediately.
